Book Review: Black Hawk: The Story of a World Class Helicopter
I’m currently reading this book (about 1/2 way through). I think it is an excellent read and the author and AIAA should give themselves a pat on the back for giving a good overview of the technology of the Black Hawk. For somebody with a background in aerospace engineering and rotorcraft, it gives a revealing insight into the design and tendering process that made the Black Hawk what it is. There aren’t many books that talk about Army tendering processes, rotor blade aerodynamics and transmission design. It’s a great book for an engineer as you’d expect as it has been written by the patent holder for the Black Hawk.
When I finish reading it, I’ll finish this post in more detail. For now, if I were to ask them to improve on something, it would be to maybe include a DVD (like a lot of other aerospace books from AIAA are doing now) with videos, images and reports.
